This Pride Month Jas in Lower Sixth, pictured here with Rowan, spoke to us about the Shebbear College Allies club, a group for students who are LGBTQ+ or allies which meets once a week.
 

‘Allies is unique because it provides a space for LGBTQ+ students and their allies to connect with each other across all year groups in the college. Figuring things out can be really tough on your own so having a support network really helps, and it’s great to see myself and others grow in confidence throughout the year. During our meetings we’ve done things within the club like presentations, discussions and even a Christmas party, but we’ve also been involved in events like the Shebbear spring fȇte that help raise awareness outside of the group. Seeing the club’s popularity grow has been really rewarding, and overall I would say that Allies is a supportive space for both students in the LGBTQ+ community and those who want to learn about it.’
