A day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4 to 18 in Shebbear, Devon

HOCKEY

Hockey is a popular core sport at Shebbear with a range of opportunities on offer for all ages and abilities. Girls play during the Michaelmas term with a two-hour games session each week in addition to a competitive team specific session for one hour a week. Additionally, our 360@Sheb program offers pupils the opportunity to participate in an extra three hours of hockey per week should they so choose. As a result, pupils at Shebbear can play hockey almost every day during the Michaelmas term!

Our specialist coaches draw experience from a variety of sporting and coaching backgrounds, from university and club hockey, to experience of professional sporting institutions. This enables us to tailor our approach to all pupils’ needs. The variety of sessions throughout the week is a real strength of hockey at Shebbear; From games lessons with a focus on building key skills, to smaller group sessions which allow pupils to focus on improving specific skills with one-to-one guidance and team and classroom sessions which focus on building pupil familiarity with the tactical side of the game so they can make decisions with confidence on the pitch.

Our mixed age group sessions also provide our senior players with an opportunity to gain coaching experience and our younger pupils to learn collaboratively with 1st XI players. The collective Shebbear hockey team spirit is something we are very proud to promote.

We offer a competitive fixture calendar with matches on weekdays as well as weekends against opponents from both the independent and state sector. Additionally, we cater to those for whom a more social mixed hockey experience is desired, with mixed hockey fixtures for a range of age groups throughout the year.
