Equestrian

Nestled in the heart of rural Devon, we offer a varied equestrian program, reflecting our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a love for horse riding among our pupils.  We take pride in providing opportunities for everyone, from seasoned competitors to complete beginners.

Our highly successful equestrian team participates in a variety of disciplines, including eventing, dressage, arena eventing and show jumping. We regularly compete at prestigious venues such as Bicton and Pontispool Equestrian Centers, and our riders have achieved remarkable success, qualifying for the Hickstead NSEA National Championships two years in a row and winning the ISA Nationals in 2025! Beyond school-level competitions, many of our riders compete in British Eventing, earning accolades and contributing to their standings in schools league tables.

We also offer weekly sessions at local venue Woollaton Equestrian Centre, allowing students to develop their skills with expert tuition on their well-trained horses. For those new to riding, this program provides a unique opportunity to progress from learning the basics to riding independently and gaining hands-on experience in horse care.

Beyond technical ability, our equestrian program fosters resilience, teamwork, responsibility, and self-discipline. Students learn the importance of preparation, perseverance, and adaptability, skills that extend beyond the riding arena and contribute to their personal growth.

Whether training for a competition or enjoying a relaxed hack, equestrian sport is part of our diverse offering, helping students develop confidence, a sense of achievement, and a lifelong appreciation for the equestrian world.

Favourite thing about your job?

The best part of my job is building strong, lasting relationships with the equestrian team members, their horses and their families. I’m fortunate to witness the dedication and hard work that goes on behind the scenes, and I love watching the unique partnership between horse and rider evolve as they take on new challenges and reach new milestones.

Sporting Hero?

I’ve followed Pippa Funnell’s eventing career since I was a teenager. Her ability to openly share both the triumphs and setbacks of her journey, while offering advice and serving as a role model for the sport, is truly inspiring.

Favourite food?

Pudding is my ultimate indulgence—I could happily eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if given the chance!
