A day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4 to 18 in Shebbear, Devon

ATHLETICS

The Athletics programme at Shebbear College promotes ambition, talent, and opportunity. Our students excel at every level—from clinching podium finishes on the national stage at the ISA Finals at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, to earning regional representation competing for North Devon at the Devon Schools’ Athletics Championships. The pupils are also able to showcase their teamwork, grit and determination more locally in the North Devon Athletics League, where we regularly ‘punch above our weight’ competing against much larger schools to qualify in multiple age groups for the league finals.

We are proud to work closely with former British discus champion and Commonwealth Games athlete, Lesley Bryant, whose expertise elevates our provision and inspires the next generation of track and field stars. With dedicated lessons each week during the Trinity term, we harness focused training in speed, endurance, plyometrics, throws, jumps and sprints—supported by excellent facilities and passionate coaches who help our athletes go the distance.

Favourite thing about your job?

Helping young athletes, not just with tactics and skills, but challenging the to build resilience, solve problems and form connections. I enjoy being part of a coaching team who understand, appreciate and support each other.

Sporting Hero?

I don’t have a single sporting hero, I admire different qualities in a variety of athletes and coaches.

Favourite food?

I love food, and I love to cook. A properly cooked steak dinner is a favourite, but it sits at the top table with lasagne and Christmas dinner. Oh, also, pizza…
