Pre-Prep
Our friendly, happy Pre-Prep is home to our youngest children. This is our Early Years and Key Stage 1 Department for girls and boys aged 4 – 7 years (in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2), situated within our Prep School building and very much part of the Shebbear family.
Our aim in the Pre-Prep is to ensure that all of our pupils have a happy start to school life. Young children need time to play, to learn how to interact with each other and to have fun just being children!
Our teachers adopt different approaches and use a range of resources that will enable every child, whatever their ability, to make accelerated progress. They develop each child’s independence, equipping them with the skills necessary to make choices for themselves and giving them the confidence to back their own judgement, without the fear of getting things wrong – it’s good to make mistakes!
In the Pre-Prep we keep our class sizes small. The children are taught by a full-time teacher and each pupil is given the individual time and attention that they need. We follow a rich and varied curriculum including English and Maths in the mornings and Topic work – encompassing Science, History and Geography in the afternoons.
In addition to this our children enjoy Art, French, ICT, Music, Drama, RE, PHSE, Games, PE and Gymnastics lessons, many of which are taught by specialist subject teachers from across the school. We make the most of our beautiful surroundings by taking learning outside whenever we can, giving the children hands-on experience of nature, science and the environment. They also enjoy a term of swimming lessons at our local pool and a term of Outdoor Education lessons, as well as having the opportunity to take part in a range of co-curricular clubs and activities including Martial Arts, Golf and Cricket.
