The windy wet weather did not deter the Year 3 and 4 children who set off for Westward Ho! on Monday to conduct their annual beach clean. The children tackled the job with enthusiasm and had soon filled a number of bin bags with nylon rope, old food packaging and of course, plastic.
What the children all noticed this year, was how small the pieces of plastic were, which was an indication of the kind of degradation that is occurring over the many years that plastic has now been polluting our seas and oceans.
Our full bin bags were then deposited into Philup the Fish, ‘the plaice for your plastic’ who sits overlooking the ocean and is now an eye-catching collection point for waste plastic.
