What makes our Pre-School so special?
Our wonderful new outdoor play area is a safe and vibrant where our children can play and learn. Beyond this, our 85 acre rural school campus offers an ideal space for the our children to explore and interact with the wider school community.
We regularly take the children to visit departments in the Senior School such as our science laboratories, art studios, music centre and sixth form centre where they meet older pupils and take part in exciting activities.
The children also enjoy weekly Forest School type activities in our woodland areas and regular trips to local attractions as well as visits from interesting guests.
Following the Early Years Foundation Stage, the seven areas of learning are delivered through a balance of adult led and child initiated activities:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Communication & Language
- Physical Development
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
Included in the Pre-School curriculum are regular French, Mathematics, Literacy and Music lessons along with Cookery, PE, Art and a variety of other subjects.
The initial phase of a young person’s education should be exciting and rewarding. At Shebbear College we achieve this by providing a reassuring, safe and happy environment.
We believe in promoting the independence and social skills of all children in our care, encouraging them to grow into happy and confident children as they learn, through play, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Children are welcomed into our Pre-School as they reach the age of 2, usually on a part-time basis and they remain here until the end of their Foundation year.
Through observations and interests shown, topics are planned which will develop and enhance their learning in a fun and challenging way.
