Huge congratulations to Old Shebbearian Demelza Short, who has earned her first senior England cap, running out in the number 6 shirt against Scotland earlier this month.

To pull on an England shirt is the dream, but to do it at just 19 makes it even more special. It’s a phenomenal achievement and a proud moment for Demelza, her family and everyone at Shebbear College. Mrs Lovett (pictured) saw her play at the England vs Wales Game at Ashton Gate – and managed to have a quick (and slightly emotional) catch up!

Breaking into the England squad takes serious talent, grit and determination, and Demelza has clearly shown all three. The step up to international rugby is no small leap, but she rose to the occasion and marked the moment in style with her debut performance.

Those who remember Demelza from her time at Shebbear will recognise the same work ethic and competitive spirit that have taken her all the way to the top of the game. She’s a fantastic role model for current pupils, showing exactly what can be achieved with commitment and ambition.

Making your England debut at 19 – there’s not much bigger than that. We’re incredibly proud and excited to see where her rugby journey goes next.

Well played, Demelza!
