Performing Arts Prep School
Shebbear College’s middle school students have once again proven that the stage is their second home, delivering a heartwarming and high-energy performance of Mary Poppins Jr that left audiences thoroughly enchanted.
Following the resounding success of The Lion King last year, expectations were high — and the talented cast rose to the occasion with charm, confidence, and a clear love for performing.
Taking centre stage as the practically perfect nanny herself, Annabelle brought poise, wit, and a touch of magic to the role of Mary Poppins. Alongside her, Barney shone as Bert, captivating the audience with his charisma and strong stage presence. Molly and Oliver gave delightful performances as Jane and Michael Banks, capturing the mischievous energy of the siblings whilst Beau portrayed the transformation of George Banks brilliantly and Jasmine gave a composed performance as Winifred Banks.
Adding to the show’s humour and sparkle were scene-stealing cameos from Bella as the eccentric Mrs Corry, Tabby as the wonderfully flustered Mrs Brill, and Harry, who brought the stern Chairman of the Bank to life with perfect comedic timing, whilst Hattie played a terrifying Miss Andrew, bringing the stage to life with her wonderful solo of ‘Brimstone and Treacle’ and Cherrie as Bird Woman gave a stirring performance of ‘Feed the Birds’.
A special mention must go to the fabulous chorus, made up of enthusiastic performers from Prep 3, 4 and 5, whose energy and vocal strength added depth and joy to the musical numbers.
With colourful costumes, polished choreography, and a score full of favourites like Step In Time, Let’s Go Fly a Kite and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, the production was a joyful celebration of teamwork, creativity, and young talent.
Huge congratulations to the entire cast and the dedicated team behind the scenes who brought this magical show to life – including the fabulous tech team of Albert, Dylan, Ethan and Louis. Shebbear College Productions continue to set the bar high — and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
