Shebbear College’s Equestrian Teams achieved outstanding success at the ISA National Schools’ Two-Day Event, held at Princethorpe College in Rugby—bringing home some incredible results and confirming their place among the best in the country!
On Friday, a convoy of 12 horses, 7 riders, and a dedicated support team travelled to the prestigious event, now in its 24th year and hosted at Princethorpe for the past decade. Although the team had also qualified for the NSEA finals at Hickstead, they chose to compete in the ISA event this year—and it certainly paid off.
Day One: Dressage & Show Jumping
Saturday began with the dressage phase, where every rider performed strong, well-executed tests. Special congratulations to Anaya and Isobel, who delivered standout performances in their classes. The team then moved on to Show Jumping, producing an impressive nine faultless clear rounds, positioning them strongly going into day two.
Day Two: Endurance Challenge & Cross Country
After an evening of course-walking and minute-marker preparation, on the Sunday the horses and riders had to complete a course of road and tracks (a test of endurance) and a steeplechase phase (a test of speed) before heading into a 10 minute holding box where horses were checked for fitness before tackling the final Cross Country course. Of the 11 horses that started, 9 completed the course without jumping penalties—four of them perfectly timed with zero penalties overall. A phenomenal achievement!
We entered 3 teams into the 70, 90 and 100 sections. 70 is aimed at those beginning their eventing journey and our team included Zola (Our youngest rider) and Lennie (Our youngest horse ridden by Chloe). The 100 track is for more experienced riders, and our team of horses and riders were able to confidently take on the challenge.
RESULTS!
70cm Team (Zola on Biscuit, Annabelle on Flynn, Anaya on Blue, Chloe on Lennie) – 1st Place!
Anaya – 1st Individual
Annabelle – 3rd Individual
90cm Team (Annabelle on Kirby, Isobel on Cassie, Tichy on Tibby, Neve on Flo) – 2nd Place
Isobel – 3rd Individual
100cm Team (Anaya on Dunkie, Chloe on Samsara, Neve on Buzz, Tichy on Mo) – 1st Place
Neve – 1st Individual
Anaya – 2nd Individual
These exceptional results reflect not only the riders’ skill and commitment but also their camaraderie and teamwork. To have such talented riders within our small school community makes us very much unique, with 6 of the 7 riders (the 7th not old enough yet) competing in the British Eventing Youth Team Programme, working incredibly hard all year-round to get to this level.
We couldn’t be prouder of our incredible group of young eventers, who demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Their achievements are richly deserved and a shining example of the excellence within our school community.
Congratulations, Team Shebbear!
