We’ve had lots of exciting workshops going on for British Science Week – as well as the joy of seeing our chicks hatch in the incubator and enjoying some cuddles with them before they set off to their new homes with some of our pupils.
Highlights include:
- A fantastic ‘Chemistry Chaos’ workshop where some of our pupils had a go at a series of exciting experiments including the screaming jelly baby, the different oxidation states of manganese shown with lollipops, flame tests using sugar cubes and the iodine clock!
- A slime investigation for Form 1 (Year 7) making and testing their own slime!
- An Engineering Workshop with The Smallpeice Trust for Form 3 (Year 9), who worked in teams to design a renewable energy resource and build a solar powered and a wind or water powered energy delivery system for a village. They kept track of the costs of their build through the day and presented an ‘elavator’ style pitch to explain the advantages and disadvantages of their strategy.
- Form 2 (Year 8 ) designed and made rocket cars, launching them on the netball courts at the end of the day. Some great designs!
- A fascinating and in-depth dissection masterclass for our academic scholars.
