Our GCSE and A-Level Geography students travelled to Reykjavik, Iceland over half term for a five day trip and an experience of a lifetime!
On Day 1 they took a dip in the Secret Lagoon, one of the oldest geothermal swimming spots in Iceland, watched Geysir erupt, a sprouting hot spring that gave its name to all the world’s geysers, visited the magnificant Gulfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park, a natural wonder of the world and known for the Althing, the site of Iceland’s parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries.
Day 2 saw visits to the breathtaking Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls; a stop off at the magnificent Sólheimajökull glacier, and visits to the natural rock arch, Dyrhólaey and the volcanic beach at Reynisfjara.
Day 3’s activities included a trip to volcanic crater lake, Kerið; a hot spring walk at Hveragerði, an unforgettable visit to Raufarhólshellir, The Lava Tunnel; ‘Flyover Iceland’, a multisensory virtual experience; and a geothermal swim at Laugardalslaug open air pool! That evening they saw the Northern Lights!
On Day 4, they spent their last morning in Reykjavík, before heading to the airport. What a fantastic few days and an amazing experience for everyone. Thanks to Miss Taylor for organising the trip and Mr Grey & Mr MacKinnon for being a part of it!
