Our Drama

Drama is integrated into English lessons as well as being a discrete subject for ages 11 – 13. At these lower ages, there is a strong focus on improvised work with pupils cooperating in small groups and learning the basics of performance. Drama games and exercises are used to encourage communication and control as well as to inspire enjoyment and (quite often) laughter.

Our 4th and 5th Form Curriculum Guide gives full details of all GCSE subjects – please download this document from the Senior Curriculum page.

GCSE Drama is offered at the age of 14 and many pupils take this opportunity to gain an early GCSE grade. AS and A2 Drama have proved to be popular options for sixth-formers and results in examinations have been very encouraging.

Regular theatrical productions are rehearsed and presented at the college to audiences comprising parents, friends, staff and pupils, utilising the superb facilities here, such as state of the art sound and lighting systems and custom stage sets designed and created by our art students.

The photos below show various drama activities, such as our musical performances of ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘The Rocky Monster Show’ as well as a drama workshop given to pupils by actor Joseph Fiennes, famous for leading roles in hit films such as ‘Shakespeare in Love’, ‘Enemy at the Gates’ and ‘Elizabeth’.
