Our Aims, Ethos and Vision
Shebbear College is a member of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST). Christian values permeate all that we do and the Chapel is a focal point in College life. It is here that term begins and ends and here that the whole school meets and worships together.
Directed by the College’s own Chaplaincy our services have an ecumenical feel. All aspects of Christian ethics come together.
We believe in traditional values and aim to:
- Strengthen an individual’s self-discipline and character
- Provide an awareness of the world and others
- Equip young people for their lives beyond Shebbear
We are a co-educational day and boarding school that emphasises Christian values. We foster responsibility, tolerance, commitment and respect, both for the individual and for society.
Shebbear College seeks to prepare all its pupils for adult life by challenging and expanding young minds and in teaching both personal and social responsibility. We take great pride not only in our pupils’ academic successes but also in the well-rounded, caring and well-motivated young adults who have a clear knowledge of right and wrong and who are comfortable and confident in their surroundings.
We keep the words of John Wesley’s challenge in mind, to:
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.
