This term’s Prep School Chess Tournament came to a conclusion this week.After six rounds of matches, the final was between Tom and Harvey. This final match lasted a matter of minutes, as Harvey pulled off a superb two move checkmate, taking the winner’s trophy.Well done to everyone who took part, from Years 2-6.
Shebbear College pupils put Christmas on hold this week and concentrated on politics. Five pupils chose to represent political parties of their choice. They campaigned to their constituents in the early part of the week and the senior school body went to the polls on Wednesday. After voting was concluded Samuel, representing the Liberal Democrat party , was elected with a landslide victory.
We enjoyed the Choir singing this morning during our end of Michaelmas Term Chapel Service, where we celebrated awards of pupil excellence achieved in the academic and co curricular areas of the College this term. The senior rugby team finished their season off with a friendly match against Kingsley. The Santas (Shebbear) and the Elves (Kingsley) showed off some fantastic rugby skills. The evening was as wonderful as one could have hoped for. The Orchestra opened with rousing, precise performances of the first movement from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and in stark contrast a memorable rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The Shebbear Singers performing for the first time delighting the audience with their enthusiastic singing. The Under 18 XV travelled to West Buckland for the final game of their season. The traditional derby and crunch match awaited our players in what was to be an outstanding game of rugby.
