What the pupils say
We take our students' opinions as seriously as those of the parents...
What your pupils say is perhaps the final endorsement for any school. At Shebbear College we are proud to say that most of our students leave with happy school memories, many staying in touch for the rest of their lives and some returning to teach themselves.
This doesn't happen by accident, but as a result of the commitment and enthusiasm of our staff, and through the involvement of the pupils in all aspects of the school.
We are proud of the environement we have created, but don't take our word for it, when you visit take the time to talk to some of the pupils to get their opinions, "straight from the horses mouth".
"It's the first school I've been to that I love going to."
"I really like Shebbear College, everyone is so friendly. Even the teachers are nice!"
"I love all the things we do, especially all the sports and the painting"
"its the friendliest place - we are more like a family really."

A day in the life of Isabelle, Boarder
“My name is Isabelle Line, I am 15 years old and I joined the College in September 2005 as a boarder, as my parents work abroad. I chose Shebbear because of its friendly, homely atmosphere.
My days as a boarder starts at 7.15am as I wake up in my own comfortable room and then onto breakfast with my friends at 7.30. Afterwards we head back to the boarding house, Ruddle, and collect our books for the day ahead.
Following a chatty walk over to the main building we leave our books in the common room and go to registration at 8.30. I have 3 lessons in the morning, then chapel and break, where we can sit in the dinning hall and socialise. After break there are 2 more lessons and then lunch break at 1.00 p.m. The food is really good and varied too.
Afternoon registration is at 1.50 and then we have the final 3 lessons. These are followed by activities at 4.00; I take Spanish, Photography, and Geography.
At 4.45 our day finishes and we can all go back to the boarding house and get changed into our casuals. Tea is at 5.00, here we can sit and talk with other boarders. We have a house meeting at 6.00 every night. When the house meeting is over, it is prep time; having my own bedroom is great because I can work in silence rather than with the distractions I would have at home. After prep, I can do whatever I like, from watching television, cooking, going down to the sports hall, or just hanging out and relaxing with my friends.
On the weekend we can go out on shopping trips to the nearest town and we also have trips to local beaches and adventure parks. I sometimes get invited to visit my day pupil friends’ families nearby. Overall I love my time here at Shebbear, because I feel it benefits not only my academic life but also my social life within the boarding community."
