Cricket Report Sat. 3rd May
Another excellent all round team performance saw the U15s secure a comfortable victory at Truro on Saturday.
Electing to bowl first, Timmy Ames and Sam Spry made life difficult for the Truro batsmen, but it was Sam who did the damage with figures of 4-6 from his 4 overs.
Wickets continued to fall when Clara Nielson(1-12) and Dan Curtis(1-19)came into the attack, but it was skipper Jack Ashmore (3-5) who polished off the tail as the home side were dismissed for just 58.
Despite the loss of an early wicket, Lewis Seaton showed that the wicket held no demons as he stroked his way to 33 not out and, with good support from Jack Ashmore (22 not out),
the winning runs were scored in the 10th over, leaving Shebbear winners by 8 wickets.
U14 Cricket vs Plymouth College 26th April
The team have made a good start to the season with a narrow but well earned victory away at Plymouth College by just two runs. Shebbear made a total of 124 runs with some aggressive running between the wickets although they needed a steady performance from Jack Hatton who demonstrated excellent leadership skills scoring 36 runs. A man of the match performance by Walter Medlicott was also required, playing with a straight bat and high levels of concentration to rack up a total of 28. Having looked like heading towards a score of just 80/90 runs this was a welcome relief and gave the team something to bowl at whilst in the field.
With Plymouth in bat Shebbear set about taking the wickets and made a positive start. Two early strikes from Walter Medlicott made the score 4/2 after just two overs and later on Plymouth were 38/7. Despite this, a late partnership in the lower order batsman for Plymouth made the game close and eventually they clawed the game back needing just a few runs off the last over. Shebbear tightened the field under the captaincy of Charlie Neilson and with Shebbear’s strike bowlers having run out of overs Daniel Buckland stepped up. He proceeded to bowl an over of perfect line and length and finally on the last ball of the over Plymouth’s final wicket fell. Notable bowling performances came from Charlie Neilson who took 3 wickets for just 18 runs and Ahmet Mutlu who took 2 wickets for just 17 runs.
Well done to all, a good start, next match a cup game against Torrington.

Under 13s vs Truro School
Saturday May 03rd 2008
Shebbear won the toss and put Truro into bat. Despite occasional wickets falling the visitors quietly amassed a total of 135 for 4. Jack Cherrington was the pick of the Shebbear bowlers, assisted by some controlled bowling by Rob Dunn.
In reply Shebbear lost early wickets, including a needless run-out of Jack Cherington just when he looked set for a big score. Matt Jones not only steadied the ship but began piling on the runs and at one point, with 65 needed off 10 overs, the target looked reachable. Unfortunately in going for the runs wickets began to fall and in the end Truro came away with a comfortable victory.
Man of the Match: Matt Jones for both excellent wicket-keeping and a score of 29.
U15s v Torrington – Devon Schools 20/20 Cup
The 1st round Devon Cup match against Torrington saw the U15s record their third consecutive victory on Tuesday.
Batting first, despite losing two early wickets, Lewis Seaton(43) and Jack Ashmore(33*) took the score to 75 in the 10th over and when Lewis was out, Oliver Scantlebury took over and smashed 56 not out, including 5 fours and two sixes, to take the final score to 167-3 in 20 overs.
Torrington were never in the match as steady bowling by all six Shebbear bowlers restricted the opposition to 84-5 in reply leaving the home side winners by 83 runs.
U15 Cricket v Bramdean Wed. 7th May
The U15s suffered their first defeat of the season against Bramdean yesterday when they were bowled out for just 80 runs in the 25th over. Top scorer was Peter Bowes with 16 not out, but some poor shot selection saw wickets falling at regular intervals in a disappointing batting display.
With county player, Alex Brown, opening the batting for the visitors , it seemed like a tall order to make it a close match, but tight bowling , particularly by Lawrence Stone and Clara Nielson, and then wickets for off-spinner Peter Bowes, aided by a superb catch by Clara Nielson, meant that it was going down to the wire.
Indeed, it was with 6 wickets down and just 5 balls remaining that Bramdean hit the winning run to end a gallant effort by the Shebbear side.
