What makes our Pre-School so special?
Our 85 acre rural campus offers an ideal space for the our Pre-School children to explore. We regularly take the children to visit departments in the Senior School such as our science laboratories, art studios, our new music centre and our new Sixth Form Centre where they are able to interact with our older pupils and take part in exciting activities. It is always our aim to include our Pre-School children within our wider school community. The children also enjoy weekly Forest School type activities in our woodland areas and regular trips to local attractions as well as visits from interesting guests.
Following the Early Years Foundation Stage, the seven areas of learning are delivered through a balance of adult led and child initiated activities:
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Communication & Language
- Physical Development
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
Included in the Pre-School curriculum are regular French, Mathematics, Literacy and Music lessons along with Cookery, PE, Art and a variety of other subjects.
The initial phase of a young person’s education should be exciting and rewarding. At Shebbear College we achieve this by providing a reassuring, safe and happy environment. We believe in promoting the independence and social skills of all children in our care, encouraging them to grow into happy and confident children as they learn, through play, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Children are welcomed into our Pre-School in the term of their third birthday, usually on a part-time basis and they remain here until the end of their Foundation year. Through observations and interests shown, topics are planned which will develop and enhance their learning in a fun and challenging way.
