It all adds up for Sam!

Shebbear College is proud to announce that pupil Sam Cappleman-Lynes has been offered a place at Trinity College, Cambridge to read Mathematics.

This news follows an impressive run of recent mathematics successes. Sam achieved full marks and finished UK joint leader in the first stage of the British Mathematical Olympiad in December 2011.

Following this superb result, Sam was invited to join a maths “training camp” in Hungary after Christmas in preparation for the second stage of the British Mathematical Olympiad which takes place at the end of January. We all wish him the best of luck in this event.

Sam was part of the Shebbear College team who won the Devon Championship for a second time at the Further Maths Support Programme UK Maths Trust Senior Team Challenge held recently at Blundell’s School, Tiverton. The UKMT is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics education. Our winning team consisted Jason Liu, Daniel Lee, William Collins and Sam Cappleman-Lynes who successfully brought the cup back to Shebbear.

Earlier last year Sam was invited to join a team of six to represent the UK in the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, an international competition in which around 20 countries take part.

We wish Sam the best of luck with his future success, although with these statistics behind him he won’t be requiring much luck.
