The 30 stylish and colourful dresses were manufactured for Colin Ross, based in South Molton, Devon, by their manufacturers MAI Design before they were kindly given to the college without charge.

Team Captain Grace Beal said “Not only do the netball dresses look amazing! I think they have boosted the team’s confidence and enthusiasm to what hopefully should be another successful season!”

The team had a very successful season last year. The most successful team to date, they won 4 out of their 6 matches, only losing the 2 games by 1 or 2 goals. Their victories included games against Kingsley School, Bideford (31-6), Blundell’s School, Tiverton (26-24) and Kelly College, Tavistock (41-36).

Thanks to Colin Ross and MAI Design, if this year’s scores look half as good as the team does it promises to be a another successful year!

Pupils are welcome to listen to our guest speakers.

Four lectures from different career areas will be delivered during the course of the evening.

Tea tickets are available from the office at break time as usual.

In pairs, the pupils used cardboard, newspapers and PVA glue to build their volcano models and then when they were dry they showed off their artistic talents by mixing and applying colours that portrayed a real likeness to an actual volcano. The pupils had to label each feature of their volcanoes and include a key with a description for each feature.

The pupils relished the opportunity to take part in this fun, often messy, but educational project and it gave them a chance to demonstrate their good understanding of the things they had learnt in class. Their teacher, Miss Mann, was extremely impressed with both the quality and diversity of the volcano models produced and how well the pupils had engaged with the task. They have certainly made an interesting and colourful classroom display!

Well done also, to our junior violin ensemble who won their category and Timothy Parker who won first prize in the U9 Folk song category.

Many of our musicians played and sung their way to winning more prizes, including Maddie Arden, Jess Baker, Oscar Baker, Olivia Rolls and Annalise Carpenter.

Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s competition.

All pupils in both the Junior and Senior Schools are being encouraged to colour in a footprint to show that they are “taking a step for Fairtrade”. These feet will form a mural around the College.

We will also stock an even wider variety of food and products in the Faitrade shop over this period to encourage people to buy Fairtrade goods.

In the Senior School, Departments such as English, Media Studies and PE  will be covering Fairtrade issues in their Schemes of Work and Mrs Purdew will be using a Fairtrade Cookbook and ingredients in her Cookery lessons during that fortnight.

We will be holding a Fairtrade Chapel service and Junior Assembly at the beginning of the fortnight to make our pupils aware of what’s going on.

Eliza Banbury sprinted to the finish line taking first place in the U9 girls category and Stuart Williams finished 10th in the U11 boys.

The children also ran at West Buckland on Sunday 5th February.

Eliza Banbury continued with her hard running and finished first, coming second overall for the whole season. An amazing achievement.In the U9s boys category Ben Plank was placed seventh for the season and the Shebbear U9 boys team won 4th place overall.

The girls also performed extremely well and came 6th overall.

Well done to all of our children who took part.

The ground was extremely wet with a covering of snow this meant that we could not play our usual game and the stronger more powerful Kingsley team came back into the game and dominated for most of the first half.  They stormed to a 3-2 lead and it could have been more if not for the defending of Alex Maggs and Chompoo Thompson.  We managed one more goal to end the half at 3-3.

The second half was much the same with Kingsley playing very well and scoring two more goals to make the score 5-3 with only five minutes left.

However captain, Stuart Williams, rejuvenated the team and we scored two goals to level the match and in the final moments when we looked to score the winner the final whistle went leaving it a draw, which was a fair result.  Our goal scorers were Jed Foster, Theo Slade (2), Eddie Jones and Sophie Gillies.  Well played everyone, you brightened up a cold day.  The pizzas were most welcome !

The U11 girls netball team also had a successful day winning their match 17-5.
