Eco Schools Programme
Helping to embed positive principles about sustainability into the heart of school life.
What are Eco Schools?
This covers a multitude of aspects both in and out of school, such as looking after the school grounds and raising awareness of environmental issues within the local community. This provides great ways of introducing environmental topics into the school curriculum.
Our assessor was very impressed with the work of the students and said “Well done Shebbear College! Eco Schools is really embedded in the school ethos and I have no hesitation in recommending the school for the Green Flag Award,” adding “children of all ages came to talk to me today and each one had something to say. It is definitely a pupil led programme with excellent support from the teaching staff.”
5th Form pupil Ailis Prowse, member of the Eco Schools team, said “I was very proud when we found out that we had reached our goal of receiving a Green Flag Award, especially after the hard work everyone put in. I am a part of planning and doing assemblies, also I help make the school aware of how much water we use and how it’s a valuable source. I am so excited about raising our Green Flag!”
Pupil Ryan Rothon said “I am very proud to say that I am part of the team that has won the Green Flag for Shebbear. Each and every one of us has put in a lot of effort and it is very rewarding to have achieved such a prestigious award. I myself have been involved in the War Child project and recycling with other members of the Eco Schools team. I hope we can achieve much more in the future.”
