Activities

All pupils are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities throughout the week and occasionally at weekends as well. Pupils in Forms 1-5 choose their activities at the beginning of each term and they are encouraged to select activities which suit their interests and talents.

If you are wondering why Activities is under the same heading as Departments, it is because at Shebbear College, we believe that activities play a vital role in the development and enrichment of the lives of all our pupils.

Department Overview

We are always looking to expand and develop the already wide range of activities on offer to the pupils and it is encouraging to see the recent introduction of Big Days Out which has seen groups of pupils climbing and surfing under expert supervision. With up to 50 activities available, ranging from Karate to Latin and CDT to Cookery, the pupils really are spoilt for choice and there can be no excuse for not trying something new.

Facilities

As our Activities programme is delivered by all staff, the facilities used comprise most of our 85 acre site and buildings, including the Memorial Hall, Sports Hall, Indoor Climbing Hall and fully equipped Craft and Cookery rooms.

In the Classroom

We try to ensure all activities are outside of the classroom wherever possible.

Beyond the Classroom

As well as the day-to-day activity programme, there is also an Activities’ Week at the end of the Summer Term, during which all Form 1-4 pupils are involved in either residential visits or, for the 4th Form, Work Experience.
